In 2005, Nokia organized a contest in Argentina, where they asked participants to design accessories for the Original Nokia Fashion Collection (7260, 7270 and 7280). Designer Manuel Lopez Revol presented his concept designs for this contest which he dubbed the Nokia Icon. Nokia icon is concept comprising of a wristband a ring that shows the user if the phone has rung or if a message has been received. The unique concept Bluetooth device conveys the information to their wearer in a subtle yet effective way. The wrist band features an OLED, duo-chromatic display which is covered by a polycarbonate case, and a D-Pad is located on its right, separated by a white line, like the ones present in Nokia 7280. By touching the pad up or down you can access and select the four different modes: messages, calls, watch and dynamic graphics. Touching left or right you can scroll the message, or load another one. The watch is the idle function on this concept wristband. The silicon rubber wristband can be easily interchanged with one of a different length or color.

The ring is a unique Bluetooth accessory designed for the thumb. When a message is received the line on the ring lights up in white, if the phone is ringing it lights up in red. The ring is available in two models, with different lines over the surface.
These high-tech Bluetooth accessories are especially great for folks who keep their phones in the bag or purse and can never hear it ring. It is also great while driving or other activities.
Magic rings appear frequently in fantasy and fairy tale and they endow the wearer with a variety of abilities, including invisibility, the granting of wishes and immortality.

If you are someone who loved those fairy tales and always wanted a magic ring of your own then nokia has just the device for you.

Nenya, a magnetic ring created by nokia research labs allows you to control and manipulate your cell phone with a mere twist of the finger. Sounds magical? Actually the ring creates a magnetic field whose orientation changes as you twist the ring on your finger.

Bluetooth technology enables the transmission of signals and the user can select the function of his choice depending on the orientation of the ring .So you can listen toyour favourite music, talk to friends or just browse the apps . The magical nenya does it all!!

The ring has been found to have 8 unique orientations associated with a specific function of the cellphone but this can be improved upon if axial movement along the length of the finger is utilised .

A magical magnetic ring, a fancy piece of digital jewellery and a cool cool gadget!! The Nenya definitely commands attention!!

Talk about an age when you can stretch your favorite mobile device into any wearable form. Nokia is envisaging the same at its Cambridge Research Center. It’s developing a stretchable electronic skin, using elastic silicon rubber known for its flexible properties. The flexible piece of bio-electronics can be wrapped around a finger or simply placed on the forehand to work as a touchpad. It seems Nokia is bracing itself up to conquer the world of future foldable devices. Watch the Nokia 888 concept phone in action below.
Imagine sitting on a bench and suddenly rolling up your Nokia laptop… How cool is that? I’m not even going to start about the inclusion of Skype or phone functions on the device, as it’s so surreal that it might crumble at the touch of a thought. Superb design job Rodrigo!

We have to start by mentioning that these is not an official Nokia concept design, but a fan made device, bearing the name of Nokia 7001. Can a square mobile handset, half the size of the iPhone make it on today’s market?

The 7001 was designed by Tobias Hornof and some may see it as a square LG Prada, but what’s fascinating is the slick interface of this exotic phone. I mean, come on, there’s even a virtual QWERTY keypad on that tiny screen!

Fancy a stylus or will you rely on your piano-playing thin fingers?

Forget about the Nokia Tube, as that’s a mere cry baby, compared to the sexy concept below. The Nokia 9900 aims to deliver what the Finnish manufacturer has been trying to create for the past year, a perfect rival for the iPhone. However, we get more than we imagined: a penphone with uber-features.
This pen phone comes with a stretchable touch panel, which will pretty much be your display and it’ll also be used as a viewfinder for the handset’s camera. The pen functions are all there, so you can write or draw any time you want, while the button on top of the device is used to control thephone.
“Form follows you”
A personal mobile communication device which lets you be free and fun. It is light, simple and carefree. You can change its form according to your needs during the day.

*target

It is targeted to the young consumers who are likely to be active and take place in a lot of different activities.

*why this target ?

Because they move and change place too much. They do a lot of different things during the day. So that’s what my design offers : to adjust to the moment, the place and the function.

*technologies that are used

It uses liquid battery, speech recognition, flexible touch screen, touch sensitive body cover which lets it understand and adjust to the environment. It has a simple programmable body mechanism so that it changes forms in different situations.

*the functionality of design

You dont have to carry it in your pocket or on your wrist. You can carry it anywhere, in anyform. You can roll it, bend it, put on your clothes like a clip. It also makes some form changes that makes it more ergonomical: i.e. when you want to talk on the phone, the body form turns into the form of the good old telephone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best in the way that you have chosen. The functions that it has also create a feeling of electronical pet, as it senses your moves, understand what you want, respond you in the best way. It learns you, to fit you better. Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other 888 users. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way you can talk without words.

*how the user interacts

E-motions… It means electronical motions that 888 has. You can send and receive forms from / to friends. You can send a heart shape to your girlfriend, so her telephone turns into an icon of heart. Or you can send a dancing form to your friends to call them to the party tonight. This is the fun side of the product. If we look from the functionality side, 888 is quite flexible. You can put it into your pocket, roll it and make it smaller, or put on your wrist when you want to make a video call on the go. If you want to talk like a normal telephone, there you have your telephone shape. We go through a lot of places and situations in the daily life, so it seems like one form is not enough.

*what is unique ?

You can change the form of the body. Not just the color. And you can do the same by sending an e-motion to your friend.

*the inspiration

The idea is that “the perfect form” does not exist. “Form follows you”
We create the perfect form for each function.

BloodRabbit, a Product Design Forums user has a Nokia-branded treat for us, a device that features a new display concept that shifts its shape. The ShapeShift project relies on the same idea used to freeze ice cubes: they imitate the shape of the environment that surrounds them.

Nokia ShapeShift comes with a preset form made out of 2 plastic layers, that’ll replace the standard pixel-based screen. One of these layers is a flexible one, while the second is a hard material and between the two there’s some sort of special liquid. This will have the same refraction as the layers.

Moving the liquid around between the layers creates button shapes on the surface of the display, allowing the user to interact with the handset. The cellphone measures 11 x 5,5 x 1,2 cm and weighs 125 grams, while the display is a 4 inch unit.
