With majority of cellphone users looking for multiple functions in mobile handsets, the focus of smartphone designers has been shifting towards touch sensitive phones that can meet communication as well as multimedia needs through a single device. The popularity of touch sensitive handsets can well be measured with the fact that over 20 different touchscreen-enabled phones, though with diverse form and functions, have been released in past two years. Taking the mobile phone technology, evolving day after day, to a new level, designer Julius Tarng has come up with an innovative cellphone called the “Modai” that seems to forge emotional bonds between the user and electronic devices by persuading human behaviors and pushing the limits of mobile technology.

Voim Smartphone for the Visually Impaired
Voim (seeing in Korean) is a smartphone concept for the blind that includes functions to make communication easier. It features route navigation, word recognition and object identification, which are displayed as braille on a silicon screen or transmitted as audio cues via the detachable bluetooth headset. Although smartphone applications & braille cell phones do exists, a full-fledged concept like this is a ways away.

NOKIA 2030 By Jim Chan

With the latest technological advancements, features and functions of mobile phones change more frequently than any other portable gadget available on the market, as we see something different and new in a cellphone every few days. Conceived by designer Jim Chan, the “Nokia 2030” is a phone concept that presents an illuminated touch sensitive keypad to allow fast and easy messaging. Featuring a body finished in reinforced scratch-resistant glass, the futuristic phone comes with full-color display capabilities to enhance the experience of the user. Measuring 2 x 4.75 x 0.25 inches (WLH) in dimensions, the Nokia 2030 also attaches colored films, at the rear, to change its color, while polished titanium case protects the screen from scratches.

The Second Life Mobile Phone Concept works on the premise that we often forget about the battery life of our mobile phones, hence run out of juice, just at the wrong time. As a remedy (rather power-saver-option) the phone incorporates a double display. When in active use the AMOLED screen powers up in all glory and in standby mode the E-ink display gets active. This essentially means that the E-ink uses very little energy and the degree of transparency of the display shows how much battery is remaining. The more transparent the display, the less battery remaining.
