Modai, future mobile phone, Julius Tarng
With majority of cellphone users looking for multiple functions in mobile handsets, the focus of smartphone designers has been shifting towards touch sensitive phones that can meet communication as well as multimedia needs through a single device. The popularity of touch sensitive handsets can well be measured with the fact that over 20 different touchscreen-enabled phones, though with diverse form and functions, have been released in past two years. Taking the mobile phone technology, evolving day after day, to a new level, designer Julius Tarng has come up with an innovative cellphone called the “Modai” that seems to forge emotional bonds between the user and electronic devices by persuading human behaviors and pushing the limits of mobile technology.

Thimble Finger Glove For The Visually Impaired

Thimble Finger Glove, Future gadget for Visually Impaired
Modern gadgets and technology may have changed the life of normal users, but there are very few or no gadgets to assist or entertain special users, especially the visually impaired, which could add some flavor to their bleak, isolated lives. Addressing the issue, designer Erik Hedberg teaming up with Zack Bennet has developed an innovative finger glove that apart from working as a magic wand also allows multimedia access to the visually impaired. Hailed as “Thimble,” the concept device embeds an optical scanner capable of translating paper text into Braille messages on the fingertip of the glove. Moreover, the sensor-laced fingertip acts as a location-aware connection to the Internet to provide news and confirm the current location, via Braille messages, of the user. Check out the video after the jump.

WheeMe Massage Robot (video)

WheeMe, CES, Massage robot
Robots are doing everything from cleaning up our messes to bathing us, therefore there was every chance we’d have a robot to massage us into comfort too. And here we are in the future already with the very cute WheeMe. Now, this isn’t any humanoid who’d sooth your muscles with its hands, coz it doesn’t have any. It’s a little roller bot that rides over the back on its rubber wheels, massaging every inch with random movement and pressure. Weighing 240 grams, WheeMe is a soft massager which understands to remain on the back without falling, thanks to its tilt sensors that keep its center of gravity in place. The bot will be shown off at the CES in January, so let’s wait to try it ourselves.
