Memories are like dots in a puzzle, some puzzles already solved and some waiting for other dots to complete them. However, till now we had only our mind to preserve our memories. Not any more, for Hyun Jin Park concepts have developed a technology concepts that does not only store videos, but also the feelings and odor of a particular memory.

Astonishing it sounds, astonishing it is, yet it is true that now you can actually capture the smell, sight and texture of a memory in a device. It’s always pleasant to see wonderful technology, and this device is the most wonderful concepts that you can ever imagine.

This device, christened as memories in a bottle, is a beautiful blue appliance shaped like a bottle. This sophisticated bottle can record a person’s experience not only in sounds and sights but also as sensations of touch and smell; that can be communicated to others with whom you would like to share your memories. The transparent touch bio screen consists of icons that can be operated by fingers. The icons appear as holograms on the touch bio screen. This transparent touch bio screen has been enriched with bio-particles that protrude evenly out of the surface of the bio screen to record sensations of touch. The sense of touch is conveyed through these even bio protrusions and the sense of smell is conveyed through the top part, the bottle opening so as to say.

In order to record the smell essence of a beautiful memory, you just have to press a button at the top part to record it. Finally, you have a gadget that brings to you the same charm that usually emanates from a perfumery. The device actually allows the sensory pleasure to go beyond bounds and express more forcefully than ever before. Again, imagine you visit a fabulous sea shore. You sprinkle dry sand on the device to preserve the memory of the texture of the sand, how it felt slowly passing between the spaces of your fingers. It’s just astonishing concepts!

The hologram icons of memories in a bottle are designed in a rotational manner, so they look wonderfully cool while you select them. Not only that, you can even transfer the memories from one device to another or share it in your network of devices. Not to mention are the features of clicking the photos and the videos, what we have conventionally known as memories to be recorded in devices until now.

Technology is one of the best creation of man. But, day by day we are being slaves of technology. The time is not far when machine will rule over man. And a very good example of this is a recently developed machine by the scientists. It claims that this can control a human mind. can you believe that you are very near to having your actions, your thoughts and your feelings controlled by somebody else?

But for this to happen, you will need to wear a wireless device, which is something like a helmet, that lets others read your mind. Christian Wentz from MIT developed this device which can be used to control the mind. This device was first used on mice for testing. Using this device, colored lights are flashed on specific parts of the brain resulting in the switching on or off a persons behavior. Behaviors such as aggression, sexual behaviors, directional movements, and so on could hence be controlled.

This is not the first time that such a device has been made, but all previous devices have been heavily wired devices that caused hindrance to validity of the study. The new developments could open up a wide range of experiments with the provision of an insight into diseases like Parkinson. The biggest problem with this is the size and weight of the device. But that also will not be a matter of concern soon, Wentz said, this technology was getting improved day by day and soon this would be miniaturized to a few square millimeters.

A team of South Korean researchers have developed a piezoelectricity-based technology for charging a tablet as the user presses its touchscreen. The tablet, dubbed as Ecopad, truly justifies its name. The device well portrays a great vision of green computing. Thanks to the piezoelectric film embedded below the tablet’s touchscreen, the device will harvest power from the pressure an user deploys on the touchscreen.

It has grabbed a special judges’ award at the Fujitsu Design Award 2011 competition. The competition was based on the title “A Life with Future Computing.” Among 3,000 ground-breaking designs from across the world, judges of the competition appreciated the Ecopad, which was designed by three tech geeks namely, Yonggu Do, Jun-se Kim and Eun-ha Seo.

An user may press his/her tablet’s touchscreen more than 10,000 times a day. That means an enormous amount of power can be produced. Under the new technology, on each pressing, the piezoelectric film can reap a bit of power, which can be saved in the device’s battery. The power later runs the device. It’s a fantastic technology Ecopad presented at the Fujitsu Design Award 2011 competition.

The Ecopad tablet, needless to say, gets rid of the conventional AC adaptor. The nano piezoelectricity film integrated with the touchscreen is enough to produce the required power for the device. The technology will help users enjoy freedom from charging the battery once it is run out. You can produce power on your own as you use the device.

It may be a bit late for Easter but eggs have a valid reason to make news again. The scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have developed eggs that can be used as low-power computer memories in future. Actually these eggs are nanomagnets that have been given the shape of an egg. These are nickel-iron magnets created using electron-beam lithography. These egg-shaped nanomagnets have been developed as a part of NIST research to help developing magnetic data storage systems for future.

The making:
The researchers at NIST used electron-beam lithography ( the practice of scanning a beam of electrons in a patterned fashion also used for creating nanotechnology architectures) for a study and made thousands of ‘egg-liptical’ magnets. Well, these eggs aren’t really that easy to see and are definitely not there to play with, for these are 200 nanometers (billionths of a meter) in diameter.

What’s new?
General shape of each magnet can be described as an ellipse. The colour of the eggs too isn’t a matter of choice or chance, they represent intrinsic qualities hidden in these small eggs. Lighter colors indicate ’stronger frequency signals’. These eggs have been coloured using object-oriented micromagnetic framework (OOMMF). The details reveal that the egg shape makes the pattern of waves more complex.

What’s refreshing?
Why the egg shape? It isn’t a random selection of just any shape. Researchers found out that even the slightest of a change or distortion in shape of a magnet causes a drift in their magnetic properties. They found it by analyzing the magnets with a laser for the spin of electrons. The spin of electrons is what’s responsible for the magnetic orientation. Changes in spins leads to waves of different frequencies. In egg like magnets the wave patterns and their frequencies become more complex. You’d have observed a similar pattern after throwing a pebble into water. These changes are observed more at the ends of the magnets than its middle portion.

Applications:
The question is how far can this ‘intentional’ patterning of shape go. If the research results are to be believed, they might help in breaking the symmetry in frequency patterns commonly noticed in ellipse structures. This gives an opportunity to control the switching process which can be customized and be made more reliable. This study also explains the unpredictable behaviour of many nanomagnets. Whose shape might have been distorted somehow by lithography process. These little imperfections might affect the switching process. These results can also be useful in developing future RAMs that are actually based on interactions between electron spins and magnetized surfaces.

Researchers at the University of Berkley have made a revolutionary breakthrough that if successful will herald a new era in digital communication technology.

Under the aegis of Dr. Xiang Zhang, director National Science Foundation Nano-scale Science and Engineering at the University of Berkley, scientists have developed a new graphene-base optical modulator. Graphene is basically a one-atom thick, two-dimensional material that has high electronic quality; and the role of modulators in digital data communications cannot be undermined.

This graphene optical modulator according to Dr. Zhang is perhaps the smallest in the world. It is very compact and has demonstrated an ability to perform at very high speeds.

To create this high-speed optical modulator, researchers used a layer of fish-net like graphene sheet on a silicon waveguide base that functions as the optical fiber. Electrical signals are sent in from one side of the graphene sheet that alters the number of photons that the sheet can absorb. The network modulator functions in a way that the crystallized carbon sheet switches on and off to send out data pulses at very high speeds. In fact the speed at which information is communicated is directly proportional to the rate at which data pulses are sent out.

Researchers were able to demonstrate that graphene, extracted from graphite can be cultured to electrically absorb light in wavelengths, which is very important in data communication technology.

It was discovered that the energy of the electrons in graphene could be altered at will based on voltage application. Basically at a certain negative voltage, when the light is switched on, all the electrons come out of graphene and make it transparent; unable to absorb photons which simply pass through the graphene sheet.

Again at certain positive voltages, the electrons in graphene are packed so closely that the ability to absorb photons is almost finished.

Researchers basically discovered a middle path, wherein just that much voltage is applied to the graphene which allows the electrons to prevent photons from passing through.

The advantages of using graphene are one two many. It is readily available and compatible with silicon technology, thus is a cheap and attractive option. It is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, which is perfect for utilization in electronic goods.

To tap the rising incomparability of the gaming world, designer Juan Pablo Giraldo has developed the “Virtual Frame.” Identical to the name, the Virtual Frame is a portable gaming console sort of a device, which integrates the blend of virtual reality to set it apart from the game consoles like the Nintendo DS and PSP. Well, while the latter have an established market space and enjoy supremacy of their own, the Virtual Frame isn’t a bad conceptualization of what the future of gaming industry and innovative social behaviors could be. Featuring Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a camera with a translucent touchscreen display, the Virtual Frame along with a virtually enhanced gaming experience, lets gamers invite and set gathering points to conduct gaming meets. A great prospect for the days after gesture controlled and 3D gaming consoles. Hit the jump to see a video representation of the Virtual Frame.
American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that “Every wall is a door.” I wish, Mr. Ralph would have seen the Planar Systems Ultra-High Resolution Wall developed recently by Planar Systems, Inc – as this wall has been built for getting things done. It is actually a 18 inches display wall which delivers 5,760 x 2,160 pixels resolution. It is a Clarity MegaPixel Wall for the perusal of corporate world entrepreneurs who want to showcase information during conferences or meetings. The MegaPixel Wall takes you into an another live world through it’s one of its kind simulations display.

Steve Seminario, Senior Director, Product Marketing of Planar Systems said that “Until now, you couldn’t get a wall display with high resolution, high brightness, large screen size and a small footprint. The Clarity MegaPixel Wall cracks the ultra-high resolution code for conference room settings where teams collaborate and make critical decisions based on high resolution visual information such as maps, simulations, engineering models, or detailed business models.” It is indeed a great achievement in the field of projection display. It is suitable for the applications like: oil and gas exploration, geospatial intelligence, engineering design, scientific visualization, military simulation, videoconferencing, etc.
The Clarity MegaPixel Wall is further divided into two models: An 8-megapixel, 100-inch diagonal Clarity mp100 and an 12-megapixel, 146-inch Clarity mp150. These models run on Clarity Interlock screen design which harnesses the power for displaying unmatchable high definition image quality, brightness and contrast.

The MegaPixel Wall incorporates a one-touch calibration (with simple controls) for a precision alignment of the image. Planar contends that the entire mechanism displays image with 99 percent accuracy which creates an extremely effective impact over the subconscious – for retaining memory in the long run. Planar Systems also said that this device is an application agnostic which displays images clearly without any additional hardware. So we can bid adieu to the traditions and bulky projectors by using this MegaPixel Wall.

Zhong Lin Wang at Georgia Institute of Technology and Jong Min Kim of Samsung Electronics in South Korea, have conceptualized a textile energy storage device made up of zinc oxide nano-wires grown on conventional fibers. This supercapacitor is supposed to provide spontaneous recharge and flexibility to be carried anywhere – which is not possible with traditional rechargeable batteries.

Aiming for the spectacular the team has designed a prototype of systematic fiber-based electrochemical micro-supercapacitor. It has been composed of flexible electrode, fine plastic wire and fiber electrode made of Kevlar – which is also the material used to make bulletproof vests. The team somehow has managed to grow zinc oxide nanowires on each of these substrates.

By coating the materials with gold and manganese oxide the team has further improved the charge capacitance. After that tweezers were used by the researchers for wrapping the plastic wires into a Kevlar fiber. Also, the configuration has been embedded in a solid gel electrolyte that divides these two electrodes for providing necessary charge transport. This concluded fiber can be processed into a fine thread which can be further converted into wearable energy storage device.

The researchers have opted for zinc oxide because it can be be grown on any desired substrate and functions at any temperature being fully biocompatible. Another astonishing feature of this power shirt is that it can be recharged with the wearer’s heartbeat, steps or even a light wind – which can be used further to power mobile phones and small sensors.
