Yuxa – Wearable Mobile Phone Made From Eco-Friendly Materials

Conceived by Mexican designer Veronica Eugenia Rodriguez Ortiz, the “Yuxa” is a cellphone concept that you can wear around your wrist like a watch or a bracelet. Removing the sound with vibration, the wearable cellphone works with Bluetooth technology, which the user need to remove from the wrist to make a call. Made from ecological materials such as plant fibers and biodegradable plastic, the green gadget features an OLED display and rechargeable battery that flattens its shape with the wrist movement of the user. You can set vibrations at different frequencies for different users. In short, the Yuxa allows an altogether new way of communication.

Apart from being powered by solar energy, the phone can also be recharged in the traditional manner with electricity. Designed by Seungkyun Woo and Junyi Heo, the fact that the phone can only be used for calls and messaging underlines it statement of minimalism.

The Window Phone is a concept mobile phone that is able to transform its appearance like a window as per the weather. The phone is designed as a thin, clear and transparent plastic sheet, which remains clear during a sunny day, becomes humid during a rainy day and takes a dump outlook during a snowy day. The user can write text messages or draw pictures on the phone in different weather conditions which will later transform and show as SMS characters. The screen features sensitive interaction with the user and comprises the state of a window in differentweather conditions.

Futuristic Green Phone Cell Wrap

If only mankind could restrict their urge to have more than what is necessary, our earth would have been a much greener planet than it is today. But in our quest to possess everything, we have pushed the green limits to a threatening extent. One of the contributing components to this threat is the cell phone. With tons of them being launched each day, an equivalent number of them are being discarded too…..generously adding on to the ever-growing piles of e-waste. To combat such grievous issue, take a look at Fernando Robert’s concept devised for Green Gadget Design Competition 2008. Dubbed as the Cell Wrap, it’s the most basic design for a communicating device without any frills. Focusing on the idea of using a gadget simply for the purpose that it is intended to, the designer makes the best use of the recycled Polyethylene to literally wrap a lead-free LCD screen, a PCB Board and a keypad.

The LCD screen is side mounted on the PCB Board leaving only the keypad on the front face of the phone. This helps to downsize the form. The wraps side finish is done in ultra clear for reading this screen. Doomed pucks layered below PE sleeve provide tactile feedback while interface graphics are printed with soy based inks. While the LED perimeter below the transparent sleeve indicates the incoming calls.

Dunno if this kinda conceptual green cell phone will make it big but the overall design definitely allows for a small carbon footprint, while still offering protection of internals with various design possibilities in the form of graphics and surface textures on.
