Sponsored by Samsung, the “Nek-fon” by designer Verenice Macedo is a cellphone concept that as indicated by its name can be worn around the neck like a necklace. Essentially a mobile phone built in a necklace, the futuristic cellphone detaches the pendent from the necklace to be used an earpiece. The Nek-fon also features a camera that projects a screen on any flat surface to let the user text, surf the internet and go through the contact list with minimum fuss. Prosthesis – A Step Closer Towards New Cyborg Society

Prosthetic limb is a novel innovation in itself, but if comes equipped with advanced technologies, it becomes more than handy for the user. The “Prosthesis” by designers Lukas Pressler and Nico Strobl is an identical limb that maneuvers effortlessly, via myoelectric sensoring, for the ease of the user. Integrating handy tools, such as a camera, flashlight, screwdriver, phone, bottle opener and an USB-stick for data exchange, the new artificial arm controls the tools with gestures. A step towards new cyborg-friendly society, the Prosthesis also includes a display at the forearm for fine-tuning without wasting any time.

Deafness extensivly affects social contacts, educational and career opportunities. Deaf people are very often restricted in their communication possibilites, respectively dependent on sign language interpreters.
The callenge was to enable deaf people to communicate freely, to make their everyday lifes easier and to reduce dependency on hearing people.

The DeafCommunicator allows deaf people to make phone calls everywhere, with the use their first language (which – for most – is sign language) and virtually gives them a portable interpreter.

The basis are Relay Services: A sign language interpreter, with whom the deaf person communicates over a integrated camera, is displayed on the screen of the device. This interpreter calls the hearing contact of the deaf person and translates spoken word into sign language and the other way around.

Furthermore, a deaf person can hook up the interpreter to a direct communication in everyday life, (for example at the doctor´s, or in an office,…) and therefore the DeafCommunicator makes them independent in the daily contact with the hearing world.

Chinese designer Lu Yin has come up with a rather strange concept to revolutionize the classroom learning. His concept is based on the duster (blackboard eraser) and the blackboard we used back in our school days. With classroom teaching going digital with time, the concept dubbed the LT Brush could find place in the classrooms making things simpler for the students. Using a camera and a recording pen to scan the courseware which the teacher has written on the blackboard, the LT Brush lets the student record the teachers lecture which the student can playback after the class.
