		<description>It&#039;s a neat concept, although quite frankly we simply don&#039;t have the technology to actually produce anything like that.  Even if the lamp was made out of very light materials it would still take a tremendous amount of electromagnetic energy to keep it levitated that far up off the ground.  Said electromagnet would consume a rather incredible amount of power, would wreck your credit cards and any other form of magnetic based media, as well as interfere with a whole range of wireless and radio signals.

You ~might~ be able to produce a scaled down version, with a weak LED based light source and then have it just hover a couple inches at most above the base.  Even with a simple design like that though there are going to be a whole variety of problems to work through, not the least of which will be finding a way of keeping it *OVER* the base.  Breath the wrong way and your light could easily tip right over the edge of the magnetic field and fall off onto your desk.</description>
