A clock is essentially a time machine in that it is our only connection with time as we travel through it. Taking the clock one step further, designer Christie Brashers has designed a watch that can actually take you into the past and future. The watch disguises itself as fashionable wrist wear until touch-activated by the time traveler. It first shows the traveler which point in time he is currently in as the dots disappears and the date becomes visible. Before traveling, he selects a destination in time by scrolling his finger along the blue lines to shuffle through the year, month, day and time of day. When each time specification is determined, he is launched into space. Using OLED and digital scroll technology, the time traveler’s watch is more than just a timepiece that literally steps into the future.

For powder hounds looking for a convenient way to keep track of the best runs down the mountain winter sports accessories manufacturer Zanier has announced the X-Plore.XGX – the first glove with full GPS functionality. Aside from making sure skiers won’t lose that gnarly stash of powder or get lost, the GPS enabled gloves also record altitude, speed, distance, duration and other route data for upload to the web once back at the ski lodge.

While on the mountain skiers can check their on-slope stats via a small, monochrome display on the glove’s thumb. Then, when they return to the lodge they can connect the gloves to a PC via a USB cable and upload the data using the supplied software for displaying their route and on-slope performance on the web. The glove is controlled by buttons on the back, while power is supplied from an integrated lithium-ion battery.

The X-Plore.XGX gloves are made with Gore-Tex X-Trafit technology to provide optimal grip, comfort and warmth and are supplied with a USB stick, USB cable and lithium-ion battery. There is no announcement from Zanier regarding price as yet but the gloves are part of its 2010/11 line, so we expect them to be available sometime later this year.

Asia, with India and China emerging as economic superpowers, is possibly the fastest growing continent, attracting traders as well as visitors from all across the world. However, the diversity in languages is one major concern that holds the visitors back from enjoying the rich culture of the region. Providing a solution, Chinese designer Tian Lingrui has come up a device dubbed “E+” that lets you visit and enjoy megacities in a convenient way. Designed for Samsung, the smart device helps tourists find, filter and translate regional languages and information instantly in their own language.
Visitors without proper knowledge of the route often take a wrong path while traveling new on unknown places. Addressing the issue, the Designaffairs Studio has devised an innovative light that other than lighting path in the dark also navigates travelers to their desired destination without getting lost in crowded cities. Hailed as “Tamtam Flash,” the pocked-sized light flashes the route info on your path to allow an immediate and more intuitive navigation. In addition, the light projects regular maps on any flat surface that the user can zoom and scroll like a digital map to find the right direction or path in a secluded location. Moreover, the Tamtam Flash can read QR tags to allocate additional information to help tourists. All the user need to do is rotate the light to switch between different modes of navigation.
Augmented reality! That’s what we’re dealing with here. This right here is the “Scout – Portable Pedestrian Navigation Device” and it’s intended to be used by people traveling about, connecting then with local knowledge, wisdom, and GPS information to guide them. It’s a digital compass is what it is. It encourages “uninhibited exploration, discovery, documentation, and sharing.”
Can you imagine the games you could play with this lovely little thing?

The Scout has a screen, a camera, and a scroll wheel click button. As you know from using computer mice for years and years now, that’s all you need! With this device you could start a whole social-media revolution, bringing the people back to the streets!

Lemme know what you think about that.

Another interesting thing is the information Matt Marrocco has given us! In the submission we’ve got here of this project, we get all of the programs used to create it: Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhino, and Hypershot. That’s awesome.

Do you agree with giving up your tools along with the design?

Very big questions in this very simple design.
It takes a weirdo or Prince to use the letter “U” as “you” correctly. You decide. What you’re looking at here also is a retro object that would have been useful way back in time when books were still printed on paper! Can you believe it!? This product, called “magnify,” assisted the user in finding the book they needed by providing a search, a map, then a lens through which the book can be quickly identified. Win!

This quaint little thing was made before books came with dust-repellant covers. Really though, what a gem. First you get the ability to search without computer or Dewey Decimal, then you get an overhead birds-eye-view map, then you get a lens. Lens for what? Lens to point you not only in the right direction, but directly right at the book in question!
