German designers Patrick Decker and Florian Langer, of Formboten, have won one of the judge’s special awards in the recent competition ‘A Life with Future Computing’. A collaboration between designboom, Fujitsu and Design Association Japan, the international industrial design competition aimed to find next-generation computing products for future lifestyles.
In this technology driven world, notebooks have become an integral part of our life. People who travel carry their notebooks everywhere, but then at times dragging one which is heavy all the way can get on your nerves. Moreover, the hefty size can add to all the irritation and an extra load while traveling. To keep things simple and lightweight, Niels Van Hoff has designed the Foldable Notebook which will replace the huge and heavy ones available in the market.
Laptops are meant to be designed with a lot of though given to ergonomics. They’re meant to be compact and space saving. They also are meant to be easily portable. Owing to all this, at times usability is compromised on. All laptops have their screens attached to the keyboard, which at times can be a setback. Here’s a design by Marcio Meireles for a laptop with an adjustable screen. Using a simple sliding technique, the screen can be adjusted away from the keyboard to suit your preferences. It can also open up like a normal laptop, screen and keyboard attached.
Laptops are handy because they fold in half. But why stop in half? They’d be handier if you could fold them a few extra times, as with the Fujitsu Lifebook X2 concept.
Many innovative ideas have made life for the visually challenged comfortable and more independent. Moving a step further to keep this group at par with others is Nazanin Oveisi who has developed an easy-to-operate laptop for the visually challenged. Called the Laptop for the Blind (LTB), it has been designed keeping in mind the special and emotional needs of this group.
