UVacuum – Personal Handheld Kitchen Vacuum

Kitchen spills happen all the time and often the user is left with no other option but to use their dirty sponge or trusty kitchen rag for all their clean up needs. This habit can lead to adding or spreading germs to your “sterile” counter-top. UVacuum is a personal handheld kitchen vacuum that can be used for either wet or dry messes, while providing UV sanitation. UVacuum is designed to be a statuesque product and undoubtedly a conversation piece in the kitchen.

Simple is better and that’s why this product is so easy to use. To use simply remove the vacuum from its charging stand. Through capacitance technology; the white icon turns on the wet/dry vacuum for basic clean up needs in the kitchen. When sanitation is necessary (when is it not?) the user can engage the UV light by pressing the blue button. These features can be used independently or in unison for a quick and easy cleaning process.

When the user opens the display box a pre-packaged LED simulates the UV power. The packaging is eco-friendly and can also be recycled.

Electrolux Morf – Futuristic Dish By Maria Fernanda Ocampo

Urban world is getting crowded with each passing day. Household spaces are getting smaller as more and more people are heading towards cities in search of a better lifestyle. This poses a lot of trouble in terms of stuffing a house with furniture items, kitchen equipment and other accessories. People are opting for multi-functional products that save precious space. Maria Fernanda Ocampo has designed Morf, which is a nanotechnology based dish.

The revolutionary dish can change forms and sizes at a single touch. Morf is three dishes clubbed in one and will be a perfect fit for future homes. The same dish can act as a soup bowl, a large plate and a small/quarter plate. The touch-sensitive dish can be unlocked by sliding the finger to the left. Three options, namely soup, small expanded and big expanded, will magically appear on it. The illuminated options are placed on the top of the dish and users can choose as per their needs.

Morf won’t consume a lot of energy to alter its dimensions. Different plate sizes and shapes are a result of three different heat levels. The unique dish is crafted from a high strength material, which is long-lasting and sturdy. The space-saving design has been injected with water saving properties as well. It will ingeniously cut the use of water (during washing) by 90%. Wow! Simply, set it in automatic wash mode and see Morf getting back to its original shape. Morf, an award winning product, will prove to be a blessing in times when water and space crunch will be at its peak.

P2 – Water Purifier System By Jung Hoon Lee

P2 is a water purifier system that dispenses clean water the normal way – through a spout plus has a detachable water-purifying jug that you can carry out with you. So basically you’re not restricted to taking water from the main body unit, which by the way dispenses both hot and cold water. Its ideal for an office environment or maybe hospitals and cafeterias; anything that makes water – queues short!

Anti-Ants Trash Can By Shu-Hsuan Chang

Inspired by how a moat can keep enemies at bay, designer Shu-Hsuan Chang has come up with the Anti-Ants Trash Can to keep the ants and other pests away from the bin. The wide base of the bin is designed like a moat and is lined with disposable sticky tape. So when the pests try to crawl up the bin, their tiny legs get stuck onto the tape and are hence trapped! How clever! You can easily tear off each layer of insects-stuck-on-tape, to expose a fresh new layer of sticky tape!

Ribbon – Mobile Food Heater By Enzo Kocak

One of the 8 finalists at the 2011 Electrolux Design Lab competition, the Ribbon is an innovative new food heater/cooler concept by Enzo Kocak. The competition asked students to integrate Intelligent Mobility within home appliances which would allow users to use kitchen gadgets on the go.

The Ribbon is a mobile device that users can wrap/drape around their food containers to cool or heat food without having to stick it in a microwave or a fridge. The device comes with two separate planes for heating and cooling functions. The dual-sided device has dozens of tiny battery-powered thermoelectric cells on each side that cool or heat food and drinks.

The flexible, shape retaining device bends and flexes with a wire-like rigidity allowing users to easily wrap it around any food container of bottle. The rubberized flexible polymer shell of the Ribbon has copper linkages between the cells inside that maximize the device’s energy efficiency. The device also has magnets in its embedded design that help users wrap the Ribbon around larger ferrous pots and pans to prevent it from slipping off.

The modular design of the Ribbon is perfectly adaptable to food containers of all sizes. The device easily splits into four segments that can be reattached side-by-side to form rectangular hot/cool plate or used normally as a wraparound heating/cooling device.

Dual sided mirrored design allows the wrap around heating/cooling system to be used on both sides. To set function, users simply have to press either of the two control buttons located on the head where the black and white sides entwine allowing users to increase or decrease the temperature of the Ribbon. Pressing both buttons at the same time switches the device off. The LED line along the side of the control bar indicates whether the device is active or not and also indicates the amount of charge available.

The device can be recharged with a DC power adapter or through thermoelectric generation. The good thing about the device is that when it is not in use the cells can convert excess heat back into electricity so you can use the Ribbon also as a power generator for other small devices. The easy to carry Ribbon quickly winds into a compact coil so users can take it anywhere with them and heat/cool food or drinks or lunch packs on the go or even keep groceries fresh on the ride home.

Tea Tumbler

The Kicker Tea Tumbler, the latest concept from Kicker Studio, combines a teapot, infuser, and heater into a minimal tumbler that subtly incorporates technology to ensure that each brew yields the perfect cup of tea each time. The “low tech” feel and natural materials preserve the sensory experience of sight, touch, and smell of traditional tea making.

Fill: You fill the device with tea leaves and water. Rings on the infuser show the recommended amount of loose tea to put in, and the form itself indicates the waterline for 2 mugs of tea.

Heat: Placing the teapot in the base selects the type of tea. The light glows to let you know which tea type you’ve selected, and indicates that the water is heating. A whistle-like chirp will let you know it’s ready to be flipped for brewing.

Brew: Flip the pot over and the timer on the top of the cap begins to count down the ideal steep time based on the tea type selected. When the light goes out, the tea is ready.

Pour: Flipping the hourglass right side up stops the tea infusion. Simply unscrew the cap and pour. The lip is designed to catch drips. As for the leaves, they’ll remain in the cap for re-steeping or easy disposal.

Measuring Cup For The Blind By Jason Yore

Visually impaired people face extreme privation in life. Their state forces them to stay dependent on others for every minute thing. From crossing the road to reaching places, they need assistance. Nowadays many devices are available that have made the life of the visually impaired quite sorted. Jason Yore has designed the Measuring Cup for Blind, which will be of great help in the kitchen.

Liquids, like oil, need to be measured in an accurate manner before adding to a cooking utensil. They are easier to spill and difficult to clean. The measuring cup will help them measure liquids in a way that will keep the area clean. The design looks like a large cup which has marks on the outer facade. These marks are slightly lifted from the surface so that they can be touched while taking a reading. They read both in ounces and cups and the measurement increases as one moves upwards.

A level indicator has been wedged that will rise up when any liquid is poured in the cup. The whole design works on float mechanism, which finds a place inside the container in the form of a small box. The dice-shaped tool in turn has been coupled with the level indicator. A user can either pour till the indicator reaches the desired amount or randomly pour and then take a reading. The handle has been crafted to provide great stability while holding the container.

Cleaning the ingenious kitchen tool comes sans any difficulty. The parts being detachable can be snapped apart easily. This will not only ensure proper cleaning but will also save space while storing. The practical product can also be used by the able-sighted. It will beautifully club the visual familiarity with tactile augmentation for a better usage. Measuring cup for blind will conveniently add a sense of independence in the life of visually impaired.

Electrolux Music-playing Cup By Kukil Han

You’ve probably tried this one at home before: lining glasses, filling them with water at different levels, and creating your own pieces of high-pitched musical ecstasy. Designer Kukil Han, inspired by the musical attributes glasses have when filled with water, has come up with a design for Electrolux, that makes a regular looking cup do a lot more than just hold your steaming for you. This one plays music too! Combining a portable music player and a cup into an interestingly out-of-the-box design, Han’s cup uses some pretty intuitive controls too. To turn up the volume of the music playing out of this one, simply move your finger along its circumferance!

Cortina – Induction Soup Heater By Gergo Kassai

The Cortina rechargeable heating system by designer Gergő Kassai is perfect for warming a quick bowl of soup. The user simply pours cold soup into the upper container and within minutes has a piping hot meal waiting in the lower portable compartment. Using induction technology, heat is generated directly in the pot opposed to being generated on the stove-top, making for faster and more energy-efficient heating than the traditional stove.

Another great feature of this product is that because heat is being generated by an induced electric current, the unit can detect whether cookware is present (or whether its contents have boiled dry) by monitoring how much power is being absorbed. That allows such functions as keeping a pot at minimal boil or automatically turning an element off when cookware is removed from it.
