Smart Shopping Cart By SK Telecom

SK Telecom has yet again come up with a new idea to introduce shopping cart service that gets integrated with the smartphones to provide latest information about the store and the products customized according to the needs of the customer. The company, which is one of the pioneers in the mobile industry, is presently pilot testing this idea in Shanghai’s lotus supermarket.

For availing this facility, the users will first need to download company’s smart cart application to their smartphones. Once the downloading is done, they can search for various products, their availability and discounts. They can also create a shopping list for themselves and shop everything listed without forgetting things and regretting at home about it.

Once the user reaches the supermarket, the user’s smart phone is synchronized with a tablet PC, which is already installed on the shopping cart. The indoor positioning technology of the supermarket determines the location of the user and permits broadcasting of all the relevant information. When the customer checks out, the tablet screen shows the list of purchased things and other details.

SK Telecom is a name synonymous with innovations in telecom industry. Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, the company has already brought new innovations to fore like CDMA, 3G CDMA and many other mobile services. We hope that the smart shopping cart also has a brighter future.

The trend of presentations at a workplace becomes a bit annoying at times. What if the projector stops working or the sound systems are not great? This can simply tarnish a good presentation. In the world of mobiles phones where people are always on the move, Deniz Albayrak has come up with an ingenious device named VestelARC that can be fed with a variety of information to eliminate the need of a projector or a sound system.

The handy gadget comes injected with basic computer functions like internet, communication and projection, to name a few. The portable device answers all these needs the mobile way. Feeding a foreign computing device with private information cannot be a safe bet all the time. What if you forget to delete all the information before leaving? Brainstorm Egg By Haemi Yoon

When it comes to brainstorming on a design project, computer aided design is the default technological interface that we use. But in the larger creative world, design interfaces differ vastly with the interfaces traditionally used in pottery design being different from that being used in designing home furnishing and auto design and so forth. The Brainstorm Egg by Haemi Yoon looks to find a common platform which can enable designers to integrate sensuous stimuli like space, various interfaces, different activities, system behaviors, human gestures, affordances and physical objects in the process of creating new ideas.

The project is basically a communicator that can interact with various interfaces during ideation providing users the ability to remember details during a group discussion. The project operates on two levels, using a projector and the egg to provide a common interface for interaction.

The high-tech projector is roughly the size of a coin which allows for greater portability and allows designers to present ideas on various everyday surfaces and virtually anywhere. This liberates people from incurring the cost of getting people together in a specific place for a presentation.

The Egg itself is a touch-enabled multi-surface interaction tool with a menu tool that helps users take advantage of the built-in texture scanner, camera and microphone that can record ideas in various formats to be presented later. An accelerometer is also built into the Egg that detects motion and allows greater flow of interaction during a presentation.

The integration of the projector and the egg will form the bulk of the interface that will contribute immensely to the creative process. Easy access to saved references, the ability to view past inspirations and the capacity to visualize ideas as they are formed helps speed up the brainstorming process. It would also allow users to “save” inspiration or ideas as they occur to them without having to physically write them down or input in a computer.

Smart ATM Can Remember Your Face, Fingerprints And Voice

ATM machines aren’t that safe because anyone can access them if he has a PIN code and your credit card, and in order to improve the security of these devices Russian company is designing a new type of ATMs.

According to reports, Sberbank is currently testing several technologies such as vocal lie detection developed by Speech Technology Center. This software works like an average lie detector, and it measures emotional distress and nervousness. In addition, this software also analyzes the shape of your voice, and it can easily detect vibrations in your speech. Besides lie detector, this new type of ATM uses 3D facial mapping and recognition, as well as fingerprint scanning. Of course, this ATM still relies on customer’s credit card and history for identity verification.

Sberbank has decided to improve the security of its ATMs, and although this is a good thing, people are concerned about their privacy. However, Sberbank claims that they are not violating their clients’ privacy, so we can only wait and see how these ATMs work in action.

The ‘billboard bench’ by serbian designer Relja Perunović is an interesting design concept that could act as your next outdoor seating solution. A panel displaying ads and service announcements can be rotated downward in its frame and to instantly changes into public seating. The Billboard Bench is somewhat a solution for open areas than for personal homes, but it’s still an entertaining concept.

Paying for a friend’s meal could mean pinching the pockets for those who make sufficient money to fund only their own expenses. But it could get really uncomfortable to go out in the open and declare that you’re going Dutch. Even if it were a pre-decided deal between friends, splitting the bill under the public gaze could be a bit embarrassing. Here’s a restaurant payment system that could relieve you of the embarrassment and the calculations. It is called ‘Piece of Cake’ and it is a calculator that assists groups who wish to pay for a meal by going Dutch.

After the meal, an individual’s item can be highlighted on Piece of Cake’s LCD touchscreen display and the individual inserts his/her credit card. The amounts get deducted as per each person’s liability and these way calculations become a piece of cake! Hope each restaurant gets its own Piece of Cake soon for us and their own sake as well!

Topshop’s Augmented Reality Fitting Room Uses Kinect Hack (Video)

Carrying a full laundry load of clothes to try on into a dressing room can be a not-so pleasant and time consuming experience. As a remedy, AR Door, a Russian agency specializing in augmented reality solutions, teamed up with Topshop to create a virtual fitting room for the new “Dress up” collection A special kiosk was installed at the flagship location in Moscow from May 5-8. The virtual fitting room was made with a hacked Microsoft Kinect, and shoppers were able to select a garment off the rack without having to try it on physically and could see themselves onscreen with a 3D copy of a dress. The built-in camera tracked each person’s body and superimposed it over a 3D model of clothing, displaying views of both the front and the back parts of the dress. Thanks to Kinect, customers used hand gestures to easily scroll through all of the available merchandise in the store by pushing virtual buttons. It will be interesting to see if Topshop rolls-out this virtual fitting room in other markets.
