URSLA & BERTHA – Future Mobile Gadget By Mac Funamizu

Computing giants IBM have predicted that 3D hologram technology could be made available in cellphones in the coming five years. As that sounds, we’re still not convinced that it would support the kind of functionality that this particular futuristic cellphone imagines. The cellphone concept by designer Mac Funamizu is basically composed of two devices that interact with each other and provide a whole new dimension to both cellphone usage as well as cellphone technology.

The two-part concept features a high tech pendant-like device called URSLA which serves as a futuristic projector capable of producing 3D holographic images in front of the user. The device would be capable of flashing notifications received on the cellphone like emails, texts, incoming calls, etc, in front of the user for a few seconds.

While that sounds feasible enough, what we have a hard time imagining is that the BERTHA, the cellphone that is synced with the pendant, could also be operated with the 3D image. So not only will the URSLA be a projection in mid-air, it would also allow users a touch-pad like capacity within the holographic image itself.

As delicious as it sounds, it really is bumming to know that such a cellphone can not exist until technology can be evolved to an extend that would allow us to manipulate 3D holograms and we imagine that would require something like plasma to be generated from the projectors beaming these images in the air to provide a touch-enabled surface. Sounds like a very long shot, but if it does ever happen, we’re sure someone somewhere would surely find a way to use it for evil also.

The age old time telling machine has gone through many changes but has never gone out of fashion. Quite often we get to see some new design which adds a new dimension to the design of this device. There are analog and digital watches which we quite often get to see. The Warped LED watch from TokyoFlash is an analog design but with a difference.

TokyoFlash gives a platform for budding designers to display their talent and helps bring out their designs before the world. Cory Farris was also given this opportunity and his design is up for all to see. Cory wanted his design to be a bit of futuristic as well as a ‘tad bizarre’. Keeping this mind he came up with the Warped LED watch that used LED to tell the time.

The looks of the watch is rather a bit ‘bizarre’ but at the same time appealing. It arouses a feeling of curiosity in the viewer. With two faces on one watch it may give rise to questions as to its methods of usage. But once familiar with the method it is going to be smooth sailing.

The two ‘faces’ on the front are in fact capacitors; the left for the hours and the right for the minutes. In between these two capacitors is a red button. A little above the red button is a touch sensitive plate. The button and the plate together help set the time. All that you need to do is press and hold the button for three seconds. This will activate the touch plate. Once activated, you can scrub on it left and right. Scrub right if you want to the watch timing to go forward and left if you want it to go backwards.

Time displayed on this Warped LED watch is an analog format. On the left capacitor hours are displayed as LED on locations as you would find on any other watch or clock. Similarly the minutes are displayed on the right capacitor. To read the watch all that you have to do is put two and two together. In other words, you need to read the hours and minutes individually, put them together and decipher the time. Sounds pretty simple, isn’t it?

This Warped LED watch is available in two types – white acetate and dark carbon fiber. Whether you choose the white or the dark carbon, you are definitely going to beat others in terms of fashion.

LED Bars Lady Concept Watch

Watch is one creation that not only tells us about the running time, but also decorates our wrist. Available in various shapes and materials, they always manage to capture attention. Laszlo, a designer from Hungary, has crafted one named LED Bars Lady Concept Watch.

The design consists of a semi-translucent plastic, which has been fitted with LED’s. Shaped like bracelet, it will be made available in two colors: black and white. A chrome strip decorates the sides, while the setting button has been nicely concealed on the rear cover of this concept watch. Red LED’s flash on the black wristwatch whereas the white one has them in the shade of blue.

Now, how do we read time on this timepiece? It’s very easy once you learn that the LEDs, flashing in stripes, on the left side represent the hours, and the ones on the right are minutes. LED Bars Lady Concept Watch looks like a dainty embellishment, which has been given a clean facade. Adding to its exquisiteness is the fact that LEDs will only be seen when active.

Adrian Castro originally conceived the MoonWatch in 2004 and decided to update it for 2011 using new materials and tech. Made of high-strength plastic, lacquered in different colors and equipped with an LED screen that displays time via numeric codes and digital hands. Other variations include titanium, gel silicone, leather and carbon fiber straps. The unique shape of the Moon Watch is supposed to better fit the wrist and the overall design is pretty unisex.

Women have a special affection for things which are dainty and sleek. Unlike men, they even want their gadgets to have a reflection of their sophisticated personality. Wilson Nino has worked on this trait and designed an MP3, named the “Sony Ericsson Leia,” which looks quite supple and can be twisted and turned as per one’s whims and fancies.

Roll it around your wrist or decorate it like a neckpiece, Leia will prove to be every girls dream. The artist has consciously tried to stay away from the typical box-like shapes MP3 players come with. Almost, all of them are controlled using the thumb, with no newness involved.

The concept MP3 player comes embedded with all the necessary functions. These functions get activated when the device is twisted in different ways. Leia also has a Bluetooth mode (gets activated when bent in L-shape), which lets the user exchange music files with minimum fuss. The music player sans the chaotic wires, thanks to the Bluetooth headphones that won’t create any mess.

Sony Ericsson Leia will flexibly compliment every girl’s personality. The device has been crafted in an elegant manner, which will act as a fine-looking accessory.
