Conceived by Mexican designer Veronica Eugenia Rodriguez Ortiz, the “Yuxa” is a cellphone concept that you can wear around your wrist like a watch or a bracelet. Removing the sound with vibration, the wearable cellphone works with Bluetooth technology, which the user need to remove from the wrist to make a call. Made from ecological materials such as plant fibers and biodegradable plastic, the green gadget features an OLED display and rechargeable battery that flattens its shape with the wrist movement of the user. You can set vibrations at different frequencies for different users. In short, the Yuxa allows an altogether new way of communication.
Nearly 4 billion trees are cut down each year to meet our paper needs. And, if you take a look around your room you’ll find many things made out of paper including newspapers and magazines. While recycling a ton of newspaper does help save approximately 4000 trees, how about a little bit of technology lending a helping hand in guarding our green preserve. eRoll is an electronic gadget which can help save a lot many trees from getting axed, thus reducing the risk of global warming. This concept widget with a rollable screen promises a feel-good factor similar to the one experienced in reading a real newspaper. Designed by Dragan Trencevski, the eRoll can be used for reading e-documents, magazines and many more things only meant to pile up as paper junk inside your house.
Offering a portable, affordable and green alternative to disposable and rechargeable batteries, Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies presents the first pocket-sized fuel cell for personal usage. Dubbed the “MiniPak”, the fuel cell is designed to power portable consumer electronics like cellphone, smartphone or personal media device. It is made using recycled plastics and green materials.

The Horizon MiniPak delivers 1.5 to 2W of continuous power through an integrated micro-USB port and a multi-choice cable to connected devices to charge them. It gets its power from refillable fuel cartridges, with that give it up to 12Wh of energy. It uses a combination of Horizon’s mass-produced PEM fuel cells and a new low-cost metal hydride storage solution, which can store hydrogen safely as a dry, non-toxic and non-pressurized material.

This hydrogen is absorbed and converted into a solid hydride by a metallic sponge contained in the fuel cartridge. Whenever required, it is released back to the fuel cell. This efficient, portable and sustainable power source will go on sale for just $100.
The Aeolus Phone concept by industrial designer Cyrene Quiamco has been created to reduce the burden on the grid and allow users to charge their devices anywhere at any time. The concept uses renewable energy such as wind power and solar power to charge its onboard battery.

The device is equipped with a power generating fan that will capture even the slightest breeze to produce energy. When the wind isn’t blowing, the phone uses onboard solar panels to recharge the battery.

The device features a simple, single color and an energy-efficient LCD screen. The designer claims that the device can be built from renewable materials. The Aeolus can also be attached to a bicycle or on the window of a car with a special tripod to help the fan generate more energy.
The technology-driven world of today is highly dependent on devices such as mobile phones to keep us in contact with our relatives and friends. While some people are rich enough to own the latest and most feature-rich phones on the market today, others still dream about owning a cellphone one day. Designer Julia Schlegel seems to have an answer for such people. She has developed a concept phone dubbed the SoleCall, which is powered by solar panels plastered on its rear side.

The display-less phone won’t carry any hi-tech features under its rubber and plastic body, but will make sure that the owner is able to call using the numeric keypad and the on/off button. The phone comes with a hanger to enable the user to hang it at any place that gets abundant sunlight. This ultra-cheap phone could be an ideal choice for people living in underdeveloped countries.
Technology may once have been called the greatest enemy to ecology but that is no longer how it is viewed as today. Now we have hi tech gadgets that only reinforce our belief that technology and nature go hand in hand. The abundant presence of green gadgets is proof of this new view.

The Leaf is a cool phone that is simplistic and would garner the interest of those who adhere to a lifestyle of minimalism. The flexible cell phone can be worn as a bracelet around your wrist, which makes it part-jewellery, but what makes this simple gadget so interesting is its green feature. The phone has a panel of solar cells on its back which create enough energy to keep the phone running. Just wear the breacelet phone and walk out into the sun to charge your phone.

Apart from being powered by solar energy, the phone can also be recharged in the traditional manner with electricity. Designed by Seungkyun Woo and Junyi Heo, the fact that the phone can only be used for calls and messaging underlines it statement of minimalism.

The human energy recycle system is an innovative concept that can gather energy emitted by human or even pets. This energy is used to power other devices, ensuring a new lifestyle for mass people with reduced electric bills and complementing to the environment. The system comprises lightweight, compact and portable units named ‘Solution Units’, designed to be worn in different spots of the human body, which collects energy from spinning, shaking, human heartbeat, body temperature and various other types of movements, and stores the energy into the ‘Standard Battery’ inside. When emergency power is required for a mobile device, these units can be connected to the device directly. Alternatively, the energy of the battery can be stored in the ‘Application’ units for later use.
Cigarette butts or filth have become a major concern for all the developing and developed nations across the world, as they not only taint the beauty of the important places but also ruin the fertility of the land. Addressing the issue, designer Kenyon Yeh, drawing inspiration from insects, has devised a portable ashtray called “Bug” that adds some decency to your smoking in public. Finished in metal for trendy looks, the portable ashtray lets you have quick puffs on the go and litter your cigarette butts and ashes within, which you may empty in a bin, after you reach your office or home, to keep the surroundings clean and green.
Providing an answer to the growth in the number of cellphones and the energy they require to keep running, industrial designer Liu Hsiang-Ling has come up with a concept cellphone that runs on the abundant energy provided by the sun.

Dubbed the Sticker Phone, this concept mobile phone can be attached to the windshield of your car or the window of your living room, where it harnesses solar energy to juice up its on-board battery. Designed to be made from silicone, the phone is flexible, allowing you to stick it even on uneven surfaces.
