Kitchen spills happen all the time and often the user is left with no other option but to use their dirty sponge or trusty kitchen rag for all their clean up needs. This habit can lead to adding or spreading germs to your “sterile” counter-top. UVacuum is a personal handheld kitchen vacuum that can be used for either wet or dry messes, while providing UV sanitation. UVacuum is designed to be a statuesque product and undoubtedly a conversation piece in the kitchen.

Simple is better and that’s why this product is so easy to use. To use simply remove the vacuum from its charging stand. Through capacitance technology; the white icon turns on the wet/dry vacuum for basic clean up needs in the kitchen. When sanitation is necessary (when is it not?) the user can engage the UV light by pressing the blue button. These features can be used independently or in unison for a quick and easy cleaning process.

When the user opens the display box a pre-packaged LED simulates the UV power. The packaging is eco-friendly and can also be recycled.
Alternative energy has reached a point where we’re willing to stop at nothing to find different ways to power up our lives. Take for example Michael Hoffmann’s new project for a solar powered toilet, which aims to convert sewage into renewable power with the use of solar panels.

The premise is simple – you use the toilet, and once you’re done, the remnants are heated by means of energy generated by a solar panel, instead of simply flushing the remnants down the toilet. This leads to generation of carbon and hydrogen which can then be used to power fuel cells.

This project is being funded by none other than Bill and Melinda Gates with their Gates Foundation, and Michael (who, incidentally, is not related to Albert) believes he can bring down the hefty $2000 price-tag being slapped on the prototype drastically through mass production. His idea for this revolutionary new toilet stemmed from similar work using solar powered cells for the treatment and purification of water.

If this project is a success, who knows, maybe, you could one day have the privilege of using your own personal waste to power your living room! Ah, the wonders of technology.
If you have scraps of pencils and eraser and a great desire to save paper and thus save the forest, then this concept is for you. Pencil Printer created by designer Hoyoung Lee is not only for printing text, but also for its erasure. The trick in this concept is to use graphite extracted from scraps of ordinary pencils instead of toner. The printer has two “exits”. First one is for printed pages, the other one theoretically is for blank pages. Quite unusual eco concept.
We all love to have a hot shower after a hectic day at work. However, in doing so we do sometimes waste a lot of water and precious electricity. Industrial designer Paul Frigout has proposed a self-sufficient concept shower that minimizes the use of energy and water.

Dubbed Eco Shower, the system generates energy by a turbine integrated inside the showerhead. As water flows through the showerhead, electricity is produced, which is used to heat water. The bottom of the shower is equipped with pressure blocks that pump water to the showerhead.

The system regulates the flow of water according to the weight of the individual using the shower. Moreover, the system also recycles water to reduce fresh water use. The Eco Shower doesn’t use ceramic, which cannot be recycled. Instead, the shower is made from Ice Stone, a product made from recycled glass and concrete, and steel.

Good quality music can instantly change the mood of a place. Israeli designer David Ganon has come up with an outside speaker system, which will make your soul dance with joy.

Normally, speakers are considered to be an indoor equipment and the outdoor usage is usually given a miss while designing. Setting one outside requires a lot of labor and can prove to be quite cumbersome, thanks to the cluster of wires involved. The creation by David will cut the use of heavy cables and make the installation effortless. The system has been shaped like a mushroom and has been crafted in a tasteful manner. It will exploit solar and wind energy for re-charging and save precious resources.

One can easily couple it with their personal music player like iPod, MP3 players, laptop, etc via Bluetooth. The speakers are placed at the bottom of the construction from where musical tunes spread around. It can also be used as a sunshade to protect you from harsh weather conditions like sun and rains. Instead of concealing the plastic reinforcing ribs, the designer has consciously made them an aesthetic part of the whole setup.

It can be positioned near a pool or in a garden and vows to liven up the area with your favorite tunes. The usage of wireless connectivity makes Outside Speaker System worth a steal. Enjoy a quiet evening or call your friends for a crazy party, the speakers will never let you down.

A team of South Korean researchers have developed a piezoelectricity-based technology for charging a tablet as the user presses its touchscreen. The tablet, dubbed as Ecopad, truly justifies its name. The device well portrays a great vision of green computing. Thanks to the piezoelectric film embedded below the tablet’s touchscreen, the device will harvest power from the pressure an user deploys on the touchscreen.

It has grabbed a special judges’ award at the Fujitsu Design Award 2011 competition. The competition was based on the title “A Life with Future Computing.” Among 3,000 ground-breaking designs from across the world, judges of the competition appreciated the Ecopad, which was designed by three tech geeks namely, Yonggu Do, Jun-se Kim and Eun-ha Seo.

An user may press his/her tablet’s touchscreen more than 10,000 times a day. That means an enormous amount of power can be produced. Under the new technology, on each pressing, the piezoelectric film can reap a bit of power, which can be saved in the device’s battery. The power later runs the device. It’s a fantastic technology Ecopad presented at the Fujitsu Design Award 2011 competition.

The Ecopad tablet, needless to say, gets rid of the conventional AC adaptor. The nano piezoelectricity film integrated with the touchscreen is enough to produce the required power for the device. The technology will help users enjoy freedom from charging the battery once it is run out. You can produce power on your own as you use the device.

The Plantbook or the ‘oxygenated notebook’, a concept designed by Seunggi Baek and Hyerim Kim, is a laptop whose technology is largely inspired by the bamboo plant that derives its nutrients when soaked in water. The design of Plantbook is amazing and unique. It comprises of a cylindrical structure with two rollout screens (for the keyboard and monitor). The green color of the notebook is a representation of its ‘green’ capabilities. There is no need for you to charge the notebook as it uses hydrogen generated by electrolysis of water as its energy source.

The Plantbook when rolled back into its cylindrical form gets placed inside a beaker full of water to soak it, thus generating hydrogen via the process of electrolysis and releasing oxygen. The energy required for electrolysis is provided by a solar heat plate that is affixed at the top of the device. Much like a plant, the Plantbook produces energy releases oxygen. Furthermore, the Plantbook has a strap or a hand ring affixed to the top that has a leaf-like shape with green LED; it indicates the extent to which the battery has been charged. It is incredible to see how much energy we can generate through natural means – without having to cut down trees, eat into our limited oil and coal reserves, etc. The Plantbook definitely seems to be a path-breaking concept.
Making good use of the water you use for bathing, designer Victor M. Aleman has designed a concept shower/spa combo that recycles waste water and uses it to give you a nice massage. The personal shower recycles water and distributes it to provide a massage. It consists of a system of purification that includes filters and electric systems that keep the water in constant flow and temperature.

This water-saving system makes use of electricity, which doesn’t always come from green sources. It does recycle water, but could use large amounts of electricity, which does ruin its green aesthetics.

Created using a combination of sophisticated green technologies is the innovative ROLL ME, a green personal computer meant for mobile use. It gives an intuitive new/old experience of writing as well as reading old-fashion style with the use of e-paper. The use of Nanotechnology concept makes it ergonomic and innovative. The flexible low-powered electronic paper permits the user to read in high light and roll the e-paper around the computer. SolarRoll is yet another highlight where the stretchy solar panel can be rolled into the computer’s shaft.
Starting the day with a green bath is not at all a bad idea. The new Indulgence shower from Pensar is a brilliant idea to help save energy and water. This new item helps you conserve water that is wasted while bathing. By introducing a mist cycle, water and energy consumption can be lowered up to 56%. In other words, a rinse-mist-rinse sequence is repeated again and again.

In terms of time, this three stage process offers 1 minute rinse, 4 minutes mist, and a 2 minute full rinse. With a feeling that you are saving a big amount of both water and energy, spa time becomes more satisfactory.

The idea is beneficial, but the time interval between three stages may irritate impatient people, especially in winter.
