Origo 3D printer can transform any children’s drawings to 3D plastic objects. Current 3D printers in the market are expensive and hard to operate machines, you have to be a designer to make things, you need to spend months learning how to 3D model. These modern industrial designers wanted to create a 3D printer that would let people to create whatever they want to make, on their own terms, the 3D printer had to be easy enough even kids could use it.

Origo 3D printer has been designed to answer all those needs, a printer that could recycle its own material, affordable and easy to use. The designers target children for their product since kids are great at imagining things, unlike adults who are usually afraid of failing or not making the perfect thing, kids draw everything and anything, they don’t limit their imaginations. The designers said that this device will have the size as big as 3-xbox 360’s and as expensive as 4-xbox 360’s. Origo 3D printer would be the world’s first 3D desktop printer for ten-year-olds.
Computing giants IBM have predicted that 3D hologram technology could be made available in cellphones in the coming five years. As that sounds, we’re still not convinced that it would support the kind of functionality that this particular futuristic cellphone imagines. The cellphone concept by designer Mac Funamizu is basically composed of two devices that interact with each other and provide a whole new dimension to both cellphone usage as well as cellphone technology.

The two-part concept features a high tech pendant-like device called URSLA which serves as a futuristic projector capable of producing 3D holographic images in front of the user. The device would be capable of flashing notifications received on the cellphone like emails, texts, incoming calls, etc, in front of the user for a few seconds.

While that sounds feasible enough, what we have a hard time imagining is that the BERTHA, the cellphone that is synced with the pendant, could also be operated with the 3D image. So not only will the URSLA be a projection in mid-air, it would also allow users a touch-pad like capacity within the holographic image itself.

As delicious as it sounds, it really is bumming to know that such a cellphone can not exist until technology can be evolved to an extend that would allow us to manipulate 3D holograms and we imagine that would require something like plasma to be generated from the projectors beaming these images in the air to provide a touch-enabled surface. Sounds like a very long shot, but if it does ever happen, we’re sure someone somewhere would surely find a way to use it for evil also.
Well, since the iPhone 5 is supposed to have an edge to edge display, how about giving the iPad 3 a similar screen? Supposedly, the new Apple tablet will not only feature a super A6 quad core processor, but also a 3D screen with no bezels. However, there are people saying we shouldn’t expect this slate anytime soon.

Also, the Retina Display is out for the new model and sources say that we should expect an AMOLED panel with full HD graphics. The diagonal will most likely stay the same, but the pixel count may increase. If will be interesting to see where Apple will get its AMOLED panels, since Samsung is the one in control of this technology and the Cupertino giant has been having conflicts with the South Korean company.

Raytheon, the world leader in defense technology and innovation, has recently unveiled the first of its kind 4D walk-in simulator at the 2011 Paris Air Show. The best bit about this new technology is that it can be fitted in and customized for both rotary and fixed wing aircrafts.

Moreover, the 4D walk-in simulator can be simply added or removed without the hassle of “operational flight program or mission computer impact”. What this essentially translates into is that this technology can allow aging or old instruments to be easily upgraded or replaced economically on various platforms such as the F-16s.

As Todd Lovell, chief engineer at the Customized Engineering and Depot Services of Raytheon explains,

“What you are going to see in the evolution of technology is bringing more sensory experience into the cockpit. There is so much information coming into the cockpit that you cannot take it in with just your eyes anymore; now it is going to be eyes, ears and maybe even touch as we go forward.”

The Raytheon Company that started in 1922 as an American Appliance Company is today the uncontested world leader in state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and a broad range of mission support services, turning over sales of $25 billion in 2010.

LG Electronics is expected to add several stunning features with its upcoming smartphone, LG Optimus 3D. The South Korean technology giant has recently unveiled one of its great features for the Optimus smartphone; a 3D browser in association with Wikitude’s augmented reality (AR) technology. LG has tied up with the AR pioneer, Wikitude to develop this amazing Web browser for its proposed 3D smartphone. According to LG, the Wikitude 3D browser will help users watch objects, places and landmarks in 3D on their smartphone. The new technology will indeed turn map and navigation services more lively and energetic.

Wikitude 3D browser already features information of 100 million locations across the world. That means those multitude of locations can be watched in 3D on the LG smartphone. In addition, LG Optimus 3D browser will support 1,000 content providers in 12 world languages. More languages will further be added into the list. In fact, along with 3D viewing of their locations and surroundings, users can easily access to Wikipedia and Twitter updates on them in the browser. It definitely provides an extra strength for LG’s innovative 3D browser.

LG press release on the AR-based 3D browser for Optimus 3D says that the technology has been praised for its potential to replace the ‘abstract’ realities of standard mobile browsers with ‘actual’ reality streamed through the camera of the smartphone. Thanks to LG’s advanced hardware and 3D API software technology, the Wikitude 3D browser will have more capacity, adds Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO and President of LG Mobile Communications Company.

LG Optimus smartphone is expected to hit the European market in summer this year. It is a Google Android based 3D smartphone with a set of spectacular features, which include dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory capabilities. Fantastically, it will be a 3D glasses-free device and will support recording and sharing of 3D contents.

Have you ever been on campus, lost and forlorn, wishing you had a cute Oriental girl with a comforting voice to guide you and tell you where to go next? Wow, you have? Okay, that’s messed up. But either way, you’ll love Mei-Chan, the interactive 3D guide developed by the Nagoya Institute of Technology to aid students and visitors on campus, give them directions and answer their queries.

Mei-Chan herself (or itself, whichever way you’d like to put it) is an anime girl who answers queries with realistic gestures. You wouldn’t expect less from a Japanese college now, would you? A lot of work has been put into making Mei-Chan as life-like as possible. The basic premise of the system is simple. There are two screens, with the girl on the right, and all the information she’s offering you on the left. Voice recognition and speech-synthesis systems make communication easy, and the graphics have been programmed using OpenGL.

It’s awesome to see virtual 3-D guides replacing the simple “You-are-here” billboards at the likes of the Nagoya Institute of Technology, and Mei-Chan is a concept that could easily be extended further, not just to campuses, but even malls and museums, to name a few. Let’s just hope things don’t get too lifelike, because we might have social outcasts hogging the virtual guide-booths thinking they finally have a girlfriend.

Double Research & Development Co. has come up with a spanking new input device that it calls “amenbo”, where this unique device is capable of sensing movements and pressure of individual fingers. Complete hand movements can be directly input into the computer, from where it will be utilized in a range of applications that require complete hand recognition. Here’s what the manufacturer has to say about it, “We put a mouse sensor under each fingertip, and can input the coordinates for each finger as well as the downward pressure of each finger. This means that the actual hand motions are being input to the PC. For example, it is possible for the PC to receive the finger data for however many fingers are needed for an action, operating it with one or both hands.”

All fingers are all linked by a flexible printed mesh base which is constructed from stretchable material in order to accommodate a variety of hand sizes. An obvious area where this input device will see action would be to manipulate 3D CAD data, since doing so at the moment requires using a 3D mouse and a regular mouse alongside both hands.

The world may go gaga over the latest iPad, but Korean designer Seungha Yoo isn’t too impressed by the latest Apple creation. Probably, which is why her portable computer concept does away with anything that is even remotely associated with traditional computing system. At least in the way they look. The M-Gram portable computer stands itself apart from the competition with its ever-so-sleek frame of 8 cm being smaller than most cell phones with advanced OS platforms in the market today.

The easy-to-carry ergonomic design of M-Gram has been made more efficient with a 3D hologram display which negates the need for an additional hardware extension to function as a display hence cutting down on both size as well as energy required to run the device. The ‘Next Five in Five’ report by IBM estimates that hologram technology will realistically be a part of computing landscape within the next five years which makes this concept a highly viable prospect for the near future.

The M-Gram uses a hologram projector and motion sensitive camera that makes the user interface highly interesting allowing users to operate the computer in non-traditional ways. Since hologram technology is in its infancy at present, it is somewhat hard to predict the exact functionality of the product although it would probably be nothing short of supremely exciting!

Electromagnetic induction phenomenon allows the computer to be charged by simply being stood on top of the charger. Since the charger comes with a built-in solar-panel, the M-Gram quickly reinforces its environmental credentials as well. A color-changing LED light reflects the charging/operational/standby status of the computer which helps users use the product more efficiently.

Built-in Bluetooth helps the computer communicate with various other devices and accessories while the camera and the microphone installed in front side of the unit enable features like video chat, augmented reality, etc. on the system.

The mushroom-like structure of the computer itself reinforces the humane aesthetics of the technology and allows the streamlined and gentle contours of the pint-sized computer to become a part of the users’ environment and their home decor.
